Why it's dumb & done

Canned beans mean no overnight soaking. Slice the sausage, dump everything in, and make a pot of rice when you get home.

Why kids will like it

Smoky sausage coins are a kid magnet, and the beans get soft and creamy. It's mild, so add hot sauce to the grown-up bowls only.

The recipe

You'll need

  • 1 package (14 oz) smoked sausage, sliced
  • 3 cans (15 oz) red kidney beans, drained
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 tbsp Cajun seasoning
  • Cooked rice, for serving

Do this

  1. Add sausage, beans, broth, onion and Cajun seasoning to the crock pot and stir.
  2. Cook on low 6 hours or high 3 hours.
  3. Mash some of the beans against the side of the pot with a spoon to make it creamy.
  4. Serve over rice.
